I know it is Cliche but it is true. I spent the day yesterday in Philadelphia checking out various Galleries. There is one I was particularly interested in the Snyderman-Works Galleries one of the oldest and most prestigious galleries in Philadelphia. So, after a bit of greatly appreciated advise from a fellow artist friend I walked in the door! They are currently running a Found Object Exhibition in the gallery and the plan was to introduce myself and begin to build a relationship in hope of being considered for inclusion in next years show. Well, beyond anything I could have ever expected my Muskie was selected from my portfolio by the gallery director to be added to the current show that has already opened! Needless to say I am honored and humbled to be included in the same company of the many incredibly talented and nationally know artists currently in the exhibition.
All of this has proven to me that it is true that it never hurts to ask or just walk through that door what IS the worst that can happen - you will never know until you try!
The current show - Recovered Delights, The Inventive World of Found Object Sculpture - runs through August 15th and offers an incredible collection of contemporary found object sculpture from an array of amazingly talented artists.
Definitely one to check out!
Congratulations on your success. And yes, there is something to the old sage advice: "Just show up . . . . "
